Match Report

                                       SIDCUP 2ND 21 CANTERBURY PILGRIMS 57

Pilgrims took the opportunity to  stretch their legs and flex their muscles in this friendly game after Henley withdrew from the scheduled Zoo League fixture. They ran in nine tries in an impressive performance, marred only by a serious leg injury to prop Dan Gill.  The city side made a flying start, clocking up 26 points  in the first fifteen minutess.  Tries from Jonathan Murray, two from fly half Jon Gallagher and another by Guy Hilton, who also added three conversions, set them on their way.  They built on that to lead 45-14 at half time with further scores from excellent Nunber Eight Jake Rigby, a second for Hilton, then wing Dom Barnaby. But PIlgrims did not have it all their own way as Sidcup responded with two converted tries and showed new determination with a third score, again converted, early in the second half.  Pilgrims found it much harder to break down a revived home side in that second period and were restricted to tries by Callum Watson and Louis Whetton, but with Hilton taking his conversion count to six the Sidcup challenge was contained. The injury to Dan Gill brought an early close a game in which Murray, HIlton and Rigby were class acts and Hamish Veitch and Ross Comfort were also prominent contributors.
