Match Report

                            CANTERBURY 3RD 34 MEDWAY 3RD 38

Canterbury 3s were unlucky to fall to their fourth defeat of the season in a thriller of a game at Merton Lane.
The home team started poorly, with bad discipline and defensive alignment allowing Medway to run away to a 15 point lead in 10 minutes. Canterbury responded with a try from Brad Allchurch but struggled to get into the game at all with repeated infringements allowing the visitors to build an intimidating 27-5 lead at the half.
There was clearly something extra added to the half time team talk, though, as Canterbury came out the blocks firing. Medway scored a breakaway try soon after the kick-off, but the city club’s new-found aggression and speed of play caught the visitors off guard and before long the comeback was on. Ollie Jaynes dummied and slipped through for one, before Vaughn Meredith found space in the outside channels and freed Ollie Simpson. Canterbury continued to pile on the pressure through a sneaky try from Jack Waite and a long-range solo effort from Allchurch. Is hat trick try then put the game to within reach but Canterbury's ill discipline - the story of the season so far- allowed Medway to kick points and maintain the lead.
