                                CANTERBURY41 CLIFFE 42

Canterbury’s win streak ended in agonising home defeat to Cliffe in a 42-41 thriller.  The game started well, with Canterbury making up for their size disadvantage by moving the ball away from rucks quickly and finding space wide. Pressure was soon converted into a try from Brad Allchurch, and quickly followed by another following a clever inside line by Ollie Jaynes. Canterbury then fell asleep at the wheel for 10 minutes, letting Cliffe power over for three converted tries. However, an opportunist kick from Sam Payne and good control from Jack Waite meant the scores were levelled shortly. Just before the half endeda penalty from Allchurch put Canterbury in the lead 24-21.
The visitors went up a gear in the second half, scoring 10 points in as many minutes. Canterbury followed up by working the ball wide, with Ollie Simpson slipping through a gap to score in the corner. Canterbury ill discipline, and strong running from the visitors, meant the game looked to be slipping away but elusive running by Waite set up his brother Ben for a score. In the last play of the game Ollie Jaynes broke through and fed Sam Payne, who fed it back to Jaynes for a long-range try. The conversion was too tough, however, and Canterbury couldn't complete the comeback.
