On warm autumn day, this was a game that got away from Canterbury. Leading 12-7 after 20 minutes, with one long range score and one considerably closer, the game was nicely in the balance A score just before half-time saw Ash take the lead and it was one they never relinquished despite a good deal of pressure from the city side in the second half. Whether it was the injuries , fitness or complacency, or perhaps all three, they could not muster a fight back.
Frequently missing good opportunities, poor decision making and rushed passing Canterbury allowed the game slip through their fingers. That should take nothing away from an Ash side that we are more physical and more focused. Once in front, their confidence grew and the grasp on the game never wavered.. Ash outscored the City side two tries to one in the second half.
