Canterbury stay in third place in Zoo League Division 2 after this narrow away victory but it was a credit to a side showing seven changes, Early Colchester pressure was repelled by excellent defending by the Pilgrims, a feature throughout the game. Then a great move started by Alex Veale, involving Max Howard and Ben Nash saw Jack Weaver ride two tackles and go over out wide left for a great try. The conversion was too much for Joe Craig, Errors followed and Canterbury just could not win anything in the scrums, even though they had a very good pack! It took them 20 minutes to get it sorted, and then things changed. After half an hour the Pilgrims put together an excellent move , with Veale giving a great dummy pass to the left, switching the ball right for Ben Nash to charge through and score under the posts and Joe Craig converting.
In the first fifteen minutes of the second half Colcheter closed the gap to four points with an unconverted try and a penalty goal. It was a nail biting time for a Pilgrims side that could not put the phases together but defended brilliantly. Their determination paid off as they hung ion an cemented their league standing.
