After a bright start this was a disappointing display by Pilgrims who who paid for their mistakes in this Zoo League encounter. They took an early lead thorough an Alex Miller penalty goal and his conversion of a Will Farris try, made by Aidan Woodward’s run. .But things changed with two breakaway, converted tries from the Irish.. First they charged down a kick and ran half the length of the pitch.. Then with Canterbury in a good attacking position a pass was intercepted and the long range effort gave the home side a four point lead at half time. There was more pain for Canterbury in the second half when they failed to react to a tap and go penalty and iot cost them another try. This turned into a bad day at the office for Pilgrims.
The backs never got the ball to their dangerous wings and the forwards were pushed around by a solid, but not very mobile pack. The effort was there, but not the composure and Irish capitalised with another converted try to run out comfortable winners.
