Old Alleynians 2nd 14 Pilgrims 50
With three debutant and two players returning from long term injury this was an interesting beginning to the New Year. A good start saw the visitors take control, but ball retention was a problem. Captain Joe Craig nearly got a try after a great move before the in-form Frankie Morgan powered through to score and Harvey Young converted. The returning Tyler Oliver made the next touchdown, Young converted and added the extras to a third try, scored by debutant wing Jack Colyer who ran the length of the field. It did not take long for Pilgrims to build on their 21-point half time lead. Jim Green, Cam Townley and Louis Chapman-Coombes were dominating for the pack., Stuart Meredith was ever available and Oliver always made ground. The backs played some expansive rugby and Barney Howard would have scored if his legs had not given way! Jovan Masalunga, from Clarke Jets in the Philippines added an international flavour. After the break there were some mistakes before Kieran Thompson scored a great try for Young to convert. When Thompson was forced off with a knee problem Jacob Gander-Compton came on for his debut and soon a kick and chase saw Harvey Young pick up and score. The home side hit back with a converted try but the rest of the game was the Colyer show as he ran in a hat trick of tries.. Alleynians late consolation was their second converted touchdown.
