Pilgrims stacked up ten tries as they coasted to their sixth Zoo League win of the season. They were well on the way by half time, scoring 31 points without reply and Tring fell even further behind before they found a response in the second half. With the Canterbury forwards in control the back division put the possession they enjoyed to excellent use as they accounted for seven of the city sides touchdowns. Their pace and handling skills were rewarded with a hat trick of tries by full back Guy Hilton and a powerful display in the centre from Ricky Mackintosh earned him two more. Hilton made an early try for new fly half Alex Meads and there were further first half scores from Guy Hilton, Alex Veale, Mackintosh and prop Dan Gill. Three conversions and a penalty goal from Will Hilton, who also put in a shrewd performance at centre, added to Trings’ problems.
Those problems grew for the home side as they lost front row players to injury and the scrums went uncontested. Mackintosh’s skills brought him his second try before the home side found a reply with a converted score but there was not holding a rampant Pilgrims. Hilton’s pace and then the accuracy of brother Will’s cross kicks saw Guy complete his hat trick and there were further tries for Gill and Elliott Deacon. Tring’s second converted try was only a small dent in Canterbury’s pride and another five conversions from Will Hilton completed a great performance which saw promising debuts by Meads and Ryan Flockhart.
