Sean Stapleton will lead the team in their first season in National Division One. The club have appointed the 31-year-old flanker as captain after he showed outstanding leadership skills in last season’s successful promotion campaign.
“I am honoured and excited by the challenge “ said Sean. “ I feel that I am returning the favour for the trust the club placed in me as we fought to win promotion. I have experience as a captain in Australia and at Bury St Edmunds which I hope will be useful. Next season will be challenging but I have never had such a good group of players to lead“.
Sean, a product of Irish Province Connacht’s Academy, stepped in to share captaincy duties last season with lock Matt Corker after skipper Max Cantwell was sidelined with long term injury problems
His appointment comes as the senior squad reported for pre-season training. Head of Rugby Andy Pratt is also set to announce a number of new additions to the squad and is delighted that nearly all of his promotion winning side are still on board.
The build up to the club’s 90th season includes two pre-season games in August against Tonbridge Juddians (17th) and Esher (24th), both at the Marine Travel Ground.
