The club has learned with great sadness of the death of Tony Piersall, a former first team prop forward and grandfather of senior squad front rower Alex Wake-Smith. One of the strongest scrummagers to represent the club, Tony’s dedication to the game was legendary. When family members were less than enthusiastic about his playing commitments he turned out under the pseudonym of Tony Williams to put them off the scent. When his cover was blown he was forgiven. In his business life he was a brilliant salesman for the double glazing firm Everest and as dedicated to selling as he was to rugby. He always insisted on travelling to away fixtures in his own car as he was canvassing new customers on the way. It is fitting that the Piersall front row tradition is carried on by grandson Alex and our sympathies go to all of Tony’s family.
