What a week

Well… What a week!!

Social distancing those two words together have changed our normal!!
Two new words have found their way into everyday language!!
Who knew anything about ‘furloughing’
Who thought that ‘zoom’ was a fruit flavoured ice lolly?

It has now become tolerable to act as a family again! Eat together, walk together, garden together, do puzzles together, play board games together and generally socialise together and watch endless repeats on TV!

It’s the norm to facetime friends and relations around the corner, around the country and the world. It’s instinctive to volunteer. And it’s taken a Pandemic to make all that and more happen…..!!

I’ve walked miles and miles and thought more thoughts than I could possibly imagine!! And in the background of all of this we have ‘our club’ to consider!
A club that will be changed forever.

We will get through this, but at the other end we are going to have to be prepared to work harder, volunteer more and understand the values of that, suck it up when disagreements arise, put in more time for things previously left for others to do and the unfortunate bit…

we’ll have to pay a little bit more too!!!

Time gives plenty of room for reflection and I’m sure everyone like me has been doing lots of that!

There is heaps that we probably haven’t got right but I can tell you there are heaps and heaps that we do get right!

Yes, there’s lots to do but if you’re missing Canterbury Rugby Club as much as I am then I know you’ll want to be there when we get through this crisis.

Thank you to all of you who have given so generously to the message that your President and I sent out. The PayPal link remains open so please if you haven’t and you can please drop a £ or two into it and encourage others to do!

Please feel free amongst your downtime to contact me over anything.

I’m proud to be the Chairman of the family that is Canterbury Rugby Club. Stay safe, Stay strong. Together we will pull through

Past Tales

Season 2019/2020

It is very strange to be writing to you all with what should have been another 6 weeks to go.

But as we are all aware, we find ourselves in unprecedented times and to that end I wish you all the best for the next few months.
So we end without the completion of the season without all age groups and teams being able to celebrate without a number of fund raising events and our Annual Sponsors Lunch. It all seems very bizarre and indeed it is.

We started the 90th season with the 1st XV in National One in unchartered territories and it feels to me and probably most of you that we’re still in those territories!
As a Club we have continued to be extremely competitive right across our playing sides and off the field.
We have welcomed many new people to our magnificent Club who have left with a very warm feeling from our welcome.
To all of you many thanks for your contribution.

Your President, Chairman and Executive Committee along with very useful input from our Advisory Board are working tirelessly to plan a way through this current position.
The level of support we have had so far is humbling to say the least. Please excuse us as we continue over the next month to knock the door for contributions to ensure we get to September in good shape. A large number of cost cutting initiatives have been undertaken and we will continue to look at every opportunity without damaging the very fabric of your Club.
So please stay safe and let’s combat whatever is put in front of us over the next few months in our #oneclub fashion. If there is anything we can do for any of you then remember there is the family of CRFC to lean on.

There will be further communications over the next few weeks as more unfolds. Ted is thinking of curry takeaways, Steve is thinking of collection of beer, Andy is thinking of post work exercise classes (at the correct distances). All or none may be possible but we will keep you informed

Thank you for everything you continue to do on behalf of Canterbury Rugby Club

Following government advice, the RFU will suspend all rugby activity in England, at both professional and community level.

Rugby activity includes club training, league and cup matches plus rugby education courses from 17 March until 14 April subject to continued review.

The decision has been taken following government advice in the interests of players, coaches, referees, volunteers, supporters and the wider rugby union community.

Where possible, players at all levels are encouraged to maintain their own personal fitness and keep active during this time, while following government guidelines about safe distance and safe exercise environments.

The RFU will continue to review and monitor government advice and will provide detailed updates on the impact to the season in the coming weeks.
