Good early pressure from Pilgrims saw Joe Rumsey go over for a try on his debut, the conversion was missed and the 5- nil lead was soon pegged back through a penalty goal. Sevenoaks exerted pressure, causing the home side to give away silly penalties. which cost them tries. The Mighty ‘Oaks kicked for touch, won the lineouts and then twice. pushed over. Suddenly the home side was 5-15 down and were being beaten in the scrum, and bullied round the park!
A good spell by Canterbury, with Will McColl going close with an incisive run and the backs spreading the ball, looked promising but all this failed to close the gap and half-time came with Pilgrims still 10 points adrift.
Jake Forest went off injured, both subs had now been used. The home side dominated for 20 minutes, but could not score. The Sevenoaks defence would not yield, and then they scored their third try. After excellent play from McColl, Elliot Lusher, and Sam Churchyard, wing Mark Shepherd managed to find his way to the line. Guy Hilton missed the conversion but at 10-20, the comeback was still on. Instead, Sevenoaks went into overdrive and slack defence helped.them pile on another 24 points.
