Kent Selection Honours for Four Canterbury Players

The club is delighted to celebrate the selection of four players for the Kent Men’s squad, marking a proud moment as the county campaign gets underway.

Cameron Macmillan, Muhammed Pangarker, Thomas Williams, and Tom Mackenzie have all earned call-ups to represent Kent on the county stage. Their selection is a testament to the hard work, determination, and consistent performances shown throughout the season in black and amber.

They join a growing group of players from the club who have represented Kent across the campaign so far, highlighting the strength and depth within the squad. It is particularly pleasing to see this latest group now take their opportunity to contribute as the county programme continues.

A special mention goes to Thomas “Tommy” Williams, who has been named Vice Captain of the Kent Men’s side. This appointment reflects not only strong performances on the field, but also leadership qualities and commitment off it, and is a thoroughly deserved recognition.

Everyone at the club wishes Cameron, Muhammed, Tommy, and Tom the very best as they begin their county journey. Their selection is a source of great pride, and they carry the black and amber onto the county stage with the full support of the club behind them.

A Proud Season for Our 1st XV

It has been a season to remember for our 1st XV, marked not only by strong performances on the pitch but by the emergence of new talent stepping confidently into senior rugby.

This year saw a number of players earn their 1st XV debuts, a significant milestone for any player and a moment that reflects both individual commitment and the strength of the club’s development pathway.

Debutants This Season

We are proud to recognise the following players who made their first appearances:

  • Adrian Geddes — v Old Albanians (Away)
  • Owain Collins — v Oundle (Away)
  • Gus Lister — v Old Albanians (Home)
  • Max McCormack — v Oxford Harlequins (Home)
  • James Everatt — v Oxford Harlequins (Home)

Each of these players stepped up when called upon, embracing the challenge of senior rugby and making their mark on the team.

Strength in the Pathway

These debut opportunities are a true reflection of the club’s commitment to developing players and providing a clear pathway into top-level competition. The transition from junior ranks or squad rugby into the 1st XV is never easy, but this group demonstrated that hard work, perseverance, and readiness are rewarded.

Their performances underline the depth within the squad and highlight the importance of nurturing homegrown talent.

Looking Ahead

With such promising signs this season, there is plenty to be excited about. The blend of experience and emerging players positions the squad well for future challenges, and we are confident that more players will follow in the footsteps of this year’s debutants.

We look forward to the incoming season with great anticipation — and to many more moments like these as the next generation continues to rise.

Canterbury U14’s season roundup

What a season it has been for Canterbury U14’s.

The squad welcomed 13 new players this year and has grown to more than 50 playing members, regularly fielding two sides: the Spitfires and the Hurricanes. From the very start of the campaign, the focus was clear. Develop players, strengthen the squad, and create opportunities for as many boys as possible to progress through the programme.

That hard work paid off in remarkable fashion.

A total of 27 players represented the Spitfires this season, something the coaching team described as unprecedented in over 20 years of coaching, and a reflection of the depth, commitment, and togetherness running throughout the squad.

Hurricanes rise to the challenge

The Hurricanes enjoyed a superb campaign, winning 17 of their 24 matches and scoring an incredible 860 points along the way.

Their season began with heartbreak against Medway on the Astro, a match many left believing should have been won in the closing moments. Yet that performance proved to be a turning point. It showed just how far the team had come and confirmed they could compete with some of the strongest sides in the county.

A huge second half display against Dartford demonstrated the belief growing within the group, while the standout performance of the season came against Winchester, where the Hurricanes delivered a complete performance from first whistle to last.

The reward for their efforts is a deserved place in Kent League 2 next season, and the chance to continue building on an outstanding year of development and progress.

Spitfires crowned champions again

The Spitfires produced another extraordinary season, losing just once in 20 matches, scoring 885 points and conceding only 176.

For the second consecutive year, they were crowned Kent League 1 champions and also recorded impressive victories against fellow county champions from across the South of England.

Two moments, however, defined the season.

The first came before Christmas away at Sevenoaks. Twelve points behind with four minutes remaining and facing the prospect of relegation from League 1, the boys produced rugby packed with composure, discipline, and character beyond their years.

A late score forced one final push. What followed was an astonishing passage of play that saw the Spitfires retain possession through 11 minutes of additional time, phase after phase, marching the length of the pitch before being awarded a decisive penalty try to win the match and preserve their League 1 status.

The second defining moment came in the League 1 Final.

Having suffered a heavy defeat away to Old Dunstonians earlier in the season, the challenge facing the team was immense. But the response was nothing short of inspirational. Digging deep physically and mentally, the Spitfires overturned that result with a dramatic 21 to 19 victory to secure the Kent Championship once again.

Their resilience, refusal to accept defeat, and ability to respond under pressure became the hallmark of this side all season long.

One squad, one season to remember

Across both teams, Canterbury U14’s played 44 matches, winning 36 and scoring a remarkable 1,745 points.

Beyond the league campaign, the squad also toured Lille, facing sides from Holland and Belgium before travelling on to Roubaix. It was a weekend filled with rugby, friendships, and memories that will stay with the players for years to come.

Three Players Selected for London & South East U20s Division Honours

We are delighted to announce that three of our players have been selected for the London & South East Divisional U20s squad, a fantastic achievement that reflects both their individual performances and the strength of the club’s development pathway.

Isaac Divine earns his place once again, marking his second consecutive year of selection. Featuring in the forwards, Isaac continues to demonstrate consistency, physicality, and commitment at this level, further cementing his reputation as a key performer.

Joining him in the forwards is Alex Smith, whose outstanding end to the season has rightly been recognised. Alex’s recent performances showcased exceptional work rate and impact, making his inclusion in the squad a well-deserved reward for his efforts.

In the backs, Brett Smith also returns for his second selection this year, underlining his quality and influence. Brett’s ability and consistency have made him a standout performer, and his call-up is another strong acknowledgement of his contributions.

Leadership Team Confirmed for the 2026/27 Season

Canterbury Rugby Club is pleased to announce that our senior leadership group will remain in place for the 2026/27 season, providing continuity, experience, and a strong on‑field presence across the squad.

Captain Jamie Stephens, a commanding second row, will continue to lead from the heart of the pack. His physicality, work rate, and calm authority have been central to the team’s identity, and his return as captain sets a powerful tone for the year ahead.

Alongside him, Frank Reynolds resumes his role as Vice‑Captain. As a fly half, Frank’s game management, creativity, and composure under pressure make him a natural leader and a key decision‑maker across all phases of play.

They will once again be supported by three influential figures within the squad:

  • Tyler Oliver – a dynamic and relentless number eight, known for his ball‑carrying presence and leadership through action.
  • Harry Sloan – an experienced centre whose communication, defensive organisation, and professionalism elevate those around him.
  • Will Waddington – also a centre, bringing energy, consistency, and a strong connection with both the leadership group and the wider squad.

Together, this group represents the standards, ambition, and unity that define Canterbury Rugby Club. Their influence on and off the field has been invaluable, and we look forward to supporting them as they guide the team into the 2026/27 campaign.

Under 16’s Finish their Season Stronger than Ever.

The 2025/26 season will go down as one of the finest in the history of any Canterbury team.

Across every competition, the squad delivered excellence, resilience and consistency, finishing the entire campaign undefeated while playing an exciting brand of rugby built on teamwork, discipline and determination.

The boys were crowned Kent U16 Champions after an unbeaten county campaign and added further silverware by winning the South East England Friday Floodlight Competition in memorable fashion.  Their attacking rugby. The squad also celebrated success with victory in the prestigious U16 Essex Golden Boot competition.

The team was relentless throughout the year, with the team scoring an outstanding 690 points while conceding just 210 — a reflection of both their attacking flair and defensive commitment.

Beyond the trophies and statistics, the future looks bright with an incredible 11 players earned selection into professional academies, recognition of Coaches Foz, Matt and Wadds talent and the boys hard work.

Most importantly, the team represented the club with humility and togetherness, often appluaded by opposing teams and their supporters not only for their excellence but also their fair play and maturoty, leaving these boys with lifelong memories and setting a benchmark for future Canterbury age-group sides to follow.

SEASON ENDS IN STYLE

CANTERBURY 94 OXFORD HARLEQUINS 0

by David Haigh

This huge victory in the final game of the league season was perhaps all too easy against National 2 East’s bottom side. In the process, Canterbury’s free flowing style saw them win the bonus point in the first 20 minutes and go on to stack up fourteen tries. Quins were not at full strength so the city squad brought their own fresh mix to the match. But from wing Garry Jones’ sixth minute try it was clear that a changed line-up was still too potent for the relegated visitors. After Jones had set the tone, there were four more touchdowns in the opening quarter, shared equally between forwards and backs, as Tyler Oliver, Tom Williams, Eoin O’Donoghue and Jamie Stephens kept the scoreboard busy. In control of possession and moving the ball at pace, Canterbury ruthlessly exploited poor tackling and by half time were 52 points ahead. Owain Collins, Jones again and Mo Pangarker, who made an immediate impact from the bench, all crossed for tries. There was no let up in the second half, with front row men Dan Huntley and Cameron Macmillan soon powering over from close range. Pangarker and wing Archie English were next on the sheet, creating and finishing as the spaces kept opening up, but the afternoon’s real eye catcher came from hooker O’Donoghue. His foot work and pace over 50 metres was a thing of beauty. The final nail was hammered into Quins by a second try from Williams and with twelve conversions – ten for Frank Reynolds and two by Presley Farrance – the last target was the 100 points mark. Canterbury narrowly missed it but no one was complaining.

Canterbury: P.Farrance, G.Jones, O.Collins, H.Sloan, F.Morgan, F.Reynolds, T.Williams, C.Macmillan, E.O’Donoghue, O.Frostick, J.De Vries, J.Stephens, M.McCormack, R.Thomas, T.Oliver. Replacements: A.English, M.Pangarker, J.Everatt, D.Huntley, W.Waddington

Black and Amber Pride on the National and County Stage

Canterbury Rugby Club is bursting with pride this week as members of our Black and Amber family continue to shine on both the national and county stage in women’s and men’s rugby. Their achievements reflect not only their individual talent and dedication, but the strength, spirit and ambition that run through our club.

Jemma‑Jo Linkins Selected for England U21s

A huge congratulations to Jemma‑Jo Linkins, who has been selected for the England Under 21 Red Roses. Jemma‑Jo will make her international debut on Saturday, starting on the wing against Ireland.

This is an extraordinary milestone for a player who has grown through our pathways with determination, humility and a relentless work ethic. Seeing her step onto the pitch in national colours is a moment of immense pride for everyone at Canterbury. She represents the very best of our club, and we cannot wait to watch her take this next step in her journey.

Four Canterbury Players Selected for Kent U20s

Our pride doesn’t stop there. Alex Smith, Isaac Divine, Harry Crowley and Brett Smith have all been selected to represent Kent U20s in the Quarter Final of the Jason Leonard Cup against Hertfordshire, and every one of them has earned a starting position.

Their selection is a testament to the depth of talent within our men’s programme and the commitment these young players show week in, week out. To have four Canterbury players starting in such a crucial fixture is a remarkable achievement and a reflection of the hard work happening across our coaching and development teams.

A Club United in Pride

Moments like these remind us why Canterbury Rugby Club is more than a team,  it’s a family. Seeing our players excel at county and national level fills us with immense pride and reinforces the strength of our Black and Amber identity.

To Jemma‑Jo, Alex, Isaac, Harry and Brett; your club is behind you every step of the way. You inspire our juniors, energise our supporters, and showcase Canterbury rugby at its very best.
